Non-Verbal in Business

Non-Verbal in Business

This is a captivating area of psychology and one that I belief has not been used to its full potential by people for business. Only law enforcement, some government agencies and world leaders are currently making use of the most up-to-date research in this arena. This is why I believe becoming more skilled in non-verbal is a tremendous asset in business lives.

Avoiding non-verbal cues is almost impossible, every interaction communicates thousands of non-verbal messages in the form of movements, assertive body language, expressions, and gestures. Many of these cues aren’t even perceived or processed consciously, but they don’t need to be consciously understood in order to have an impact. Whether people realise it or not, non-verbal cues can exert a huge influence over whether our communication is successful. We focus so much on what we’re going to say that we forget to think about how we’re presenting ourselves. Our non-verbal communication patterns are very important from the way we stand to the way we move our body, the way we dress all have a powerful impact on how we are perceived as communicators in the world of commerce.

“Non-verbal communication is an elaborate secret code that is written nowhere.
Known by none and understood by all.”

I work with individuals and companies coaching people how to master their non-verbal behaviour, how to use and read body language, understand the importance of paralinguistics, reading peoples and colleagues non-verbal behaviour, using non-verbal to be and look more confident, how non-verbal plays a role in what impression you give to other people.

Non-verbal behaviour and communication is area of expertise that can be a great addition to your knowledge in business, the ability to read people’s non-verbal behaviour and message, and to use and control your own is a huge asset in today’s world. It sounds hard to believe, but around 20% of how we communicate with each other is through words, so that means that 80% of our communication is deemed “nonverbal.”

Being equipped with this knowledge you are not just making decisions based on the words people are saying to you, but on their non-verbal message too.

A recent survey from CV-Library, revealed that a staggering 92.5% of candidates have got away with lying on their resume. What’s more, nearly three quarters of those said that they got the job as a result. Most people under normal circumstances, are not consciously aware of their non-verbal message, as such, they do not often use body language to lie or cover up the truth. This means that compared to words, non-verbal tends to be a more accurate reflection of what they truly feel or think. In cases when, what a person says is different from what his body language says, trust the nonverbal message more than the actual words. How to read body language is a key advantage in business in can help you choose the correct candidate, resolve conflicts more effectively, and spot any form of deception that might be harmful to your company.

“If we only depend on what people say verbally, we are not even close to understanding half of what is really going on”
